Akshay Bohra signs with R-ace GP and moves up to FRECA

Akshay Bohra, the Indian-American driver, signs with R-ace GP for the 2025 Formula Regional European Championship. He would also be taking part in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship in the winter before the European season begins.

The 17 year old finished 4th in his sophomore year in the Italian F4 season, taking 1 win, 8 podiums and 4 pole positions. Although in total he scored the second most points, on countback of the top 16 results, he lost out to Prema bound teammate Jack Beeton and Hiyu Yamakoshi who would move up to FRECA with Van Amersfoort Racing.

He was crowned the 2024 Euro4 champion where he enjoyed his more successful weekends, taking the title away from title favourite Freddie Slater and Kean Nakamura-Berta. He has had extensive experience in the category where he competed in 110 races across his 2 year tenure in the class.

Moving to R-ace GP in FRECA was a very good move that was possible through his management, ADD Management, who have brought Lando Norris to F1, and have many capable driver in their wings including Freddie Slater and Ugo Ugochukwu. Their drivers do test alot before each category and it is expected for Akshay to be well prepped by taking part in multiple test days, under the guidance of Jordan King, a Formula 2 race winner. More importantly, going in FRECA with a top team like R-ace GP who have had driver and team titles in the past few years, would not only help in a good rookie season but also increased visibility and social media engagement, which is a very important factor while making a brand around a driver for growth in their career.

He also took part in last year's post season tests in the Formula Regional chassis with R-ace GP, driving the fourth car to prepare for driving with the team in case Enzo Deligny would have received a suspension. Regardless, he had very impressive lap times in both the tests at Imola and Mugello. It is a known environment and he could challenge for top honours next year.

His teammates for 2025 would be Red Bull Junior Enzo Deligny, who returns for a second year in the team and Jin Nakamura, the Super Formula Lights driver, backed by Toyota. A good lineup for the team.

The 2025 FRegional Championships have a very exciting set of rookies coming next year, including Freddie Slater (Prema), Jack Beeton (Prema), Rashid Al Dhaheri (Prema), Dion Gowda (VAR), Akshay Bohra (R-ace GP), Taito Kato (ART GP), Yani Stevenheydens (ART GP), Hiyu Yamakoshi (VAR) and Jin Nakamura (R-ace GP).

With his brother Nikhil Bohra who competed in FRECA this year with MP Motorsport, who won't be racing next year, Akshay remains the next and the most realistic F1 hopeful for India.
